Building Trust and Credibility with Testimonials

Why do you choose to buy products or services from certain businesses? It’s because you’ve built trust with them from different sources. We don’t just randomly pick a business by “Eenie Meenie Miney Mo” (OK maybe sometimes), but majority of the time we build a relationship with them through the information we receive from friends, family, social media, ads, or their website. Testimonials and other people’s experiences are the main force behind us trusting a business.

Keep it Authentic

To get testimonials from your clients/customers, simply ask. Allow them to write a testimonial in their own words explaining their experience and the benefits they received. A testimonial template may get you exactly what you want them to say but it makes the reviews sound structured, forced and all the same. By allowing your customers to speak their mind it keeps your business authentic, real and open whilst also giving you quality feedback where you can use the positive to build trust and the negative to improve.

Keep it Convenient

Not one client is the same; value and use that to your advantage. First always give an example of the different testimonials you have received thus far, this will help anyone that has never done one. Then ask your customers to produce a testimonial in whichever way is convenient and comfortable to them. They may opt to do a written review which is the most common, they may provide a photo which enforces authenticity, or they may create a video testimonial. Either way every testimonial benefits your business.

Use it Wisely

Treat your testimonials like a pot of gold because that’s exactly what they are to your business. Make the most out of them by placing them clearly on your website and ask your clients to post them to your social media and/or your google my business page. For any new viewer visiting one of your accounts this will start the relationship with trust, credibility and confidence.
